Teach For America aims to end educational inequity --
the reality that in our country where a child is born determines his or her educational outcomes and, in turn, life prospects.
Their mission is to build the movement to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting our nation's most promising future leaders in the effort.
Their vision is that one day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
Teach For America corps members are a diverse group of our nation's most promising college graduates and professionals who possess the leadership skills and experience needed to change the academic and life prospects of students growing up today and, ultimately, to effect the fundamental change in our society that will make it a place of opportunity for all.
Today there are more than 14,000 Teach For America alumni working in a variety of sectors, including business, education, law, medicine, and public policy.
They report that Teach For America had a significant impact on their lives, both personally and professionally.

Camp Echo Staff YMCA Membership
|
Want to work out over your holiday break in Evanston? Swim laps? Play some hoops?
Or maybe you want to take a class at the member rate?
You may also take a free CPR class or challenge once a year as long as you register for it while your employee membership is active!
All Camp Echo staff are entitled to a McGaw YMCA Membership for the same number of weeks that you worked at Echo last summer.
Contact the Camp Director for a form you can use to activate your membership.

Certification Requirements
|
Regular CPR and Standard First Aid are required for all staff.
Red Cross CPR certification is good for one year.
American Heart Association CPR certification is good for two years.
Red Cross First Aid certification is good for three years.
Although Lifeguard certification is not required for employment at Echo, it is strongly encouraged.
It is required for anyone working as a Trip Guide, Explorers Counselor, Rangers Counselor, or Teen xTreme Counselor.
The Camp Echo salary scale offers a $20/week incentive for Lifeguards, which roughly pays you back in one full summer.
CITs from 2009, remember that Camp Echo will reimburse you for the cost of any Lifeguard class, up to the amount the McGaw Y charges for the class.
You must pay for the class up front; to get reimbursed, submit a photocopy of your receipt and your 'card' to Rob Grierson after you pass the class.
Red Cross Lifeguard certification is good for three years.
Wilderness First Responder certification is required for Trip Guides.
The Camp Echo salary scale offers a $35/week incentive for WFRs, which roughly pays you back over two summers.

Tuesday, May 25 - Friday, May 28, 9 am to 5 pm
Fee: $195; includes room, board, the book and the class
Lifeguard Review Course -- for Re-Cert
Friday, June 4, 2010, 8 am to 2 pm
Fee: $25
CPR -- Full Class -- for First Timers
Friday, June 4, 2010, 9 am to 4 pm, with a lunch break
Fee: No Charge
CPR Challenge -- for Re-Cert
Friday, June 4, 2010, 3 pm to 4 pm
Fee: $10
Standard First Aid -- Full Class for First Timers
Thursday, June 3, 2010, 7 pm to 10 pm
Fee: No Charge
Standard First Aid Challenge -- for Re-Cert
Thursday, June 3, 2010, 9 pm to 10 pm
Fee: $10
